Do You Know What the “Emergent Church” Is?

July 15, 2008 by KimberlyE · Leave a Comment

I was doing some research today on the Emergent Church as I was unsure exactly what this term actually meant…

According to Wikipedia:
Dr. R. Todd Mangum, Associate Professor of Theology and Dean of Faculty at Biblical Seminary, describes it this way:

“Emergent” is a loosely knit group of people in conversation about and trying experiments in forwarding the ministry of Jesus in new and different ways, as the people of God in a post-Christian context. From there, wide diversity abounds. “Emergents” seem to share one common trait: disillusionment with the organized, institutional church as it has existed through the 20th century (whether fundamentalist, liberal, megachurch, or tall-steeple liturgical). Its strengths: creative, energetic, youthful, authentic, highly relational. Its weaknesses: somewhat cynical, disorganized, sometimes reckless (even in the theological ideas willing to be entertained), immature…”

I believe, then, that “The Secret” and Oprah’s “newly forming church” would fall under this category, from what I can gather.

I also found some interesting information on it on Horizon.org, and wanted to pass it on to you.

While I was at this site, they also had some other great information on a wide array of topics including “I Want a Better Marriage” (Who doesn’t want to make their marriage even better?).

The pastor, Dr. Bob Botsford, actually serves on the advisory for the Billy Graham School of Evangelism and is the host/ teacher on “Testify,” a daily radio program broadcast in Southern California on KWVE 107.9 FM and KPRZ 1210 AM.

His ministry is at Horizon North County and they also have the Horizon Prep and Preschool. Very cool.

So, if you’re looking to Find a Church in Rancho Santa Fe, you might want to check out Horizon.org.

Looking for an Alternative to Going to Marriage Counseling?

April 6, 2008 by KimberlyE · 2 Comments

I happened to “stumble upon” this marriage counseling website the other day, and I was about to stumble to another page, since I typically do not investigate any further if I don’t see that the programs are Biblically based. However, right before I did, I happened to see an entire section on Prayer on this site.

There are many instances where a couple may not want to, or be willing to, go to appointments with a marriage counselor in person. However, this could be a different and viable alternative that you both may agree to…It doesn’t really matter how you get help, just that you DO get help that’s Biblically based!

1-yr-anniversary-reception-in-canada-2000-climbing-tree.JPGDr. Ellen Kreidman, PhD., wants you to be able to fulfill your vows of “Till death do us part” when you told your mate that you’d love them forever at the altar…

LightYourFire.com (neat name, eh?) is an online marriage counseling program, with personal help, not automated responses, if and whenever needed. You are able to browse around the website, picking up gems of wisdom that can start to help your seemingly helpless situation…

There is a men’s and a women’s section, which is stated to include real help studded with easy, fun and entertaining factors.

If you are a Christian, and you want to save marriage counseling from a Christian counselor or program is essential. The rest of the world does not look at marriage in the same light.

LightYourFire.com says that they have been proven to be more effective and in a shorter time period than traditional marriage counseling. They have sold over 1 million programs worldwide and guarantee results or you will get your money back…but they say, you’ll get your fulfilling marriage back instead!

If you are on your last leg in your marriage and are looking for help, this may be a great option for you to look into.
